Patterns in the lily pond

Recent strong winds scattered petals on the lily pond, creating an array of patterns set against the mellowing tones of the decomposing lily pads.

Princess Louise – the first poppy of the year.

One of my favourite Oriental Poppies is the delightful Princess Louise.   The flower pictured below opened four days ago  and is  the first in my garden this year.

 

Its beauty is confirmed by a closer look.
