I was attracted by the ‘abstract paintings’ created by the reflections in the windows of this old building on the quayside at Porthgain.

I particularly enjoyed the light, the movement, the textures and the colours in this scene. Beauty in chaos!

A walk along a pebble beach can provide an abundance of source material for the creation of abstract pictures. The three photos above were not particularly searched for. I merely stopped walking and photographed the small area in front of my feet. But look carefully at each photo – click on the image to enlarge. It immediately becomes clear that no two pebbles are exactly alike; there are considerable variations in size, shape, colour, pattern and texture and by zooming in closely it is interesting to explore the uniqueness of each pebble. This is the source material I referred to from which abstract images can be created.
For me the producing of abstract patterns and pictures is a particular passion and I have many images derived from the process described above. I intend to post examples from time to time and hope that the above explanation will serve as a generic introduction.

The ripples radiating from the cascading water (see Creating a splash) attracted the sunlight and reflected the clear blue sky and surrounding surfaces. The bright light created a kaleidoscope of fluid, constantly changing abstract patterns.

The gold/ turquoise/ blue combination is invariably eye-catching. Add textured patterns of seaweed and the result is irresistible.

It was a frustrating morning – there were so many things I needed to do in the garden before Open Garden Day. But there were compensations. The trickles of rain on the window pane diffused the colours and shapes in the flower bed and created delightful, pastel abstract patterns.

Each time I open the dishwasher I find at least one still life arrangement staring back at me! I’m sure its because I see patterns all around me – that’s how I am! Maybe still life pictures are not as popular as was once the case but in the next two posts I shall be offering a pair each day.
