The abstract pattern of reeds at the water’s edge suggests to me a mood of confrontation or belligerence.

Along the edges of the estuary are large beds of tall reeds bearing showy, purply brown plumes. The reeds display many moods – sometimes appearing upright, still and politely proud; at other times thrashing around wildly under the buffeting by strong winds blowing in from the open sea.

During our recent three days break in Suffolk I took quite a few photos of reeds bordering the lakes. The image below caught my eye because I immediately saw some form of encounter taking place between the group on the left and the group on the right. The nature of their exchange I leave to your imagination.

A glance at the sky indicates the time of year as heavy shower clouds are being rushed along by a strong breeze, creating characteristic ‘sunshine and showers’ weather. Beyond the reeds the rape seed is coming into flower. On the right, the track leads round to the Martello tower.
