Two faces of winter

The pictures below are of the same tree taken on two consecutive days, yesterday and today (Friday).   Yesterday shiny patches of bark sparkled in the  brilliant winter sunshine.  Today, following an overnight fall of snow (our first this winter!) the sun still shone, though somewhat intermittently.

Frost patterns (4)

To offer an alternative interpretation, this picture of frost on grass (taken at the same time as the recent posts) has been given a touch of watercolour filter.

Frosty morning patterns (3)

When I look at the images below I can feel the crunch of the frosty grass beneath my feet.

Not what I planned!

This image is not what I intended!  It is the result of a masking experiment that went wrong.  But hey, I quite liked the result so here it is!
