Just think about it! (27)

‘What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare’    William H Davies

‘And listen,’ we might add.

For some, the period of ‘lockdow’ has created changes to the pace and conditions of everyday life – the temporary removal of the hustle and bustle, the frantic activity and accompanying noise.

It seems an opportune time to examine our quiet moments a little more closely. For example:

  • Close your eyes for one minute; become aware of, and note mentally, each and every sound that breaks your silence. Notice its character and quality of the sound – was it harsh or gentle, loud or soft, natural or mechanical, near or far off etc.

  • Once more, close your eyes for one minute; become aware of the thoughts, ideas, distractions, feelings etc., that occur during that time.silence empty time?

‘I’m late! I’m late for a very important date.’

This image is derived from reflections in the garden pond.  It reminded me of the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland.

Abstract ‘June 2017’

This image was created a month ago, both to reflects my own feelings and to symbolize and express something of the hurt, heartache and anger caused by a sequence of horrendous events  –  terrorist attacks in Manchester and London and the Grenfell Tower Block fire.

Just reflecting

It is extraordinary how therapeutic a short time by the sea can be.  The whirligig of everyday life is temporarily stilled.  The vastness of the sea, the soothing ripple of the waves, the plaintive calling of the gulls, the awareness of unaccustomed space combine to induce personal reflection and meditation.

The passing of time

It is the season of the year when ‘time’, in one form or another  – whether reflecting on past happening or planning the future  –  often impinges on our consciousness.  The image below seeks to express the passing of time.  The material is derived from a newspaper advertisement for Time magazine.
