The final stand!

A few weeks ago I paid tribute to the defiance and resilience of Nature in the face of the ferocious storms, ‘Abigail’ and ‘Barney’ (see https://lagill6.wordpress.com/2015/11/24/defiant-nature/).  Alas there was more to come.   Further onslaughts from ‘Clodagh’ and ‘Desmond’ have reduced the foliage to a single leaf.  What remarkable courage that leaf displays!

New Year, new shoots

A fruit tree  in the field next door was somewhat mercilessly ‘pruned’ (massacred!) a few months ago.  One could feel the pain.  But, encouraged by the mild weather in the second half of 2014, the tree has valiantly fought back and has produced a prolific number of sturdy, burgeoning young shoots that, in a chaotic way, form an attractive spectacle.   This picture is really an act of celebration!
